ALPHALINK
NATIONWIDE ACCESS
Using
Nationwide Dial Up
If you an AlphaLink client with a dialup account
or ADSL account, you can use our Nationwide Dial
Up Access numbers when you travel.
Or, you can stay connected with AlphaLink when
you move from our area.
Restrictions & Limitations
AlphaLink services are not multi-session; you
cannot use your local dialup account or ADSL
account at the same time you are traveling. If
you require multiple sessions, a separate travel
dial-up account may be purchased for $14.95 per
month. If you need a temporary account, a
minimum of 1 month charge will apply.
AlphaLink is not
responsible for any charges that may be assessed
by telephone companies. Please note that
some phone companies offer extended local plans,
which involve fees for calls to certain areas
after you have exceeded a certain number of
minutes. You should check with your local
phone company before using our dial up access in
any location.
AlphaLink cannot guarantee the quality of your
connection or the accuracy of the locator map.
However, our experience has been that this
service is very reliable.
Step 1
|
|
Locate Local Access
Number Using
Locator Map
Select the state you will be
traveling to or type a phone number from the
location you will be visiting. Please make
sure you check with the local phone company
serving the area to ensure the phone number
does not involve toll charges.
Some areas have more than one local access
number. The numbers with "On Net" status are the
most reliable; however, try each number in
your area as connection quality may vary. |
Step 2
|
|
Create Connection
Shortcut
We recommend you create a separate dial up icon
named "Traveling AlphaLink Connection" with a
shortcut on your desktop to use when you travel.
Please review the Set Up instructions for
your particular Operating System.
Most office and hotel phone systems require
you to dial a number (often 9) to get an
outside phone line. If you are at a location
where you have to dial a number to get
outside, just add that number plus one or
two commas to the front of our local dial-up
number. For example, if you need to dial a
"9" to get an outside line calling
801-413-2200 then put the number into your
computer as 9,,4132200. Also, don't forget
that many areas now require "ten digit
dialing" where you have to put in the area
code (without a preceding 1) for local
calls. Most people in the city that you are
visiting will be able to tell you if they
use "ten digit dialing" in that city. |
Step 3
|
|
Change Your Email
Program
To receive your email while you are connected to
an out of area phone number, you must set your
email client to do "SMTP Authentication".
To do this in Outlook Express:
Tools >Accounts> Mail Tab>
Select your
Alink or Cgate mail
account
Select Properties> Servers Tab>
Place a CheckMark in the
box next to "My Server Requires Authentication"
You can also use our WebMail
to access your email while out of town by
accessing
http://mail.alink.com.
